Yeah, I went there. The game is pretty cool so far, and apparently I have the best solo play class. If you guys pick it up, I'll go healer though. Each quest so far has had me go into a dungeon, usually nearby, and they have difficulties you can select by party size, or if you're apparently suicidal. Its pretty cool really. Generally you have to smack around some mobs and complete some sort of puzzle, moving floor tiles seems pretty standard (Done it twice so far). Rogues are a requirement for disarming traps, but you can usually dodge them if careful. It feels like an MMO version of Dragon Age or Fable.

The mechanics are confusing, and in a D&D style (+1 to healing, yay?). Its pretty simple though, just go for the higher +'s lol. It also rolls a small die in the corner of your screen when ever you attack/are attacked, etc., but its just a visual thing really, you never have to click it and touching it does nothing. Apparently the game is actually a sanctioned with DnD rules and everything, so those into it are probably stoked lol.

A big downside for me is that you can only have two characters, and two of the classes are cash shop only (Monk and Favored Soul). You can buy more slots though, among other things. The guild system apparently has airships, which sound interesting as well, haven't read up on it yet.

The controls are pretty cool, the game is 100% active, so no auto-attacks. The basic walking controls are WASD or Arrow keys. Your mouse left click button is a melee attack/bow, etc. and you have a hotkey bar for spells. I play a cleric and pretty much just melee and use heal right now. You can also block with a shield by holding down shift, and if you left click while blocking it does a shield bash. Another cool thing is that heals actually damage undeads, which is rare in games.

Character customization is pretty good. You can choose from 3 types of main classes, melee, spell, and specialists. Of that there are:

Melee:
Fighter-Lots of weapon types, shields, heavy armor, most combat abilities
Barbarian-Not so great armor, but huge offense and berserker, also can absorb damage
Paladin-Best tank, good balance of offense/defense, and healing

Spell:
Wizard-Lots of spells, can buff?,and can summon allies
Sorcerer-Like wizard, but with fewer spells, but cast faster
Cleric-Devine spells, buffs, and healing, good against undead

Specialist:
Ranger-Can weild two melee weapons and excell at the bow
Rogue-Use stealth, open doors, disarm straps, and use sneak attacks
Bard-Use spells and magic to buff allies and debuff enemies

There are also 3 set subclasses to each class, and the option to build a customized class. When creating a class, it also tells you the solo difficulty.

Screenshots and more info to come.

Yeah, its not bad at all. The whole "adds +1 to will saves" etc. throws me off since I'm not a DnD guy, but it doesn't matter a whole lot I guess. Smashy smashy! I do miss the bright colors and anime-esque art, as well as more active spell casts. Its hard to get away from the hot bar I guess.

Sweet. I saw you called yesterday evening, I was out at the Laurel County Fair and ran by Walmart to get a new router, mine crapped out on me finally. I plan to play some today though. Nick has been super bored without the internet, so I'll probably let him play 9Dragons or something (Was watching a shaolin temple documentary this morning, one of the kids there was playing it, lol. Even more funny, he was a tai chi practitioner in the game instead of a shaolin.).

Oh yeah Jon, I wield Morning Stars, how you like that? Huhuh? Yeah. Laughing

EDIT: Well it appears we're going down to Knoxville for the day to visit my mom. I'll be playing all weekend though.

I got somewhat nice looking armor... of course it looks like some strapped a dead possum to one of my arms but other than that pretty cool, and I bought a couple of curved swords, still not able to weild my giant bastard sword... probably wont for awhile, suppose to be the largest of the single handed swords. and when I can I shall aquire a second... and learn how to kill with em... and my controller works waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than keyboard little spastic but safer when running up and down things that you can plummet to your death from, yeah! AND FOR A FORUM CREATOR JON SURE DOESN'T POST.

I checked out the official forums on Tempests. It seems like you can choose "feats" on leveling up sometimes, and they can let you wield larger one handed weapons without giving you a penalty. It depends on Dex as well, but that stuff should be built into your chosen path.

I'll be on as long as I can stay awake. If I went to bed as soon as I got home I'd probably wake up at 3 a.m. anyway lol. Last I checked at 4 p.m. Nick was still asleep. Last night I finished the Dragon bit at like 10:40-ish, so I think we're about even. I stayed on the island just incase you hadn't done it yet, but I'll go ahead and move on.

Alright, I haven't downloaded it yet, but I'm looking into character information about this game. I have a concept in my head that I'm trying to read up and see if it will work. I know Jake is a ranger, what class are you Joe?

I'm a war-priest type cleric (the best soloer or so its said, figured I might be playing alone alot). I can make a full on healer/spell type too though. I just started a Paladin to see what its like.

Paladin isn't a very good healer, at all. I got one to level two and finally got a healing spell, but its useable only once per rest shrine and heals the same as my cleric heals. So, it'd be better to go more tank based, and from what I hear, the warrior types have better taunts and can weild the better shields off the bat.

http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=232660 <- this thread on their forums offers alot of info on builds, etc. for making a good customized character for the role you want to play.

so yes to inform anyone else who might actually play this game besides me and joe, in DDO you can multiclass and make your own custom warrior mage whatever meaning youan use all the skills from whatever classes you train your char, I am currently a lv 4 ranger lv 1 rogue meaning I can run around with two giant swords screaming like a mad man summoning wolves to my aid AND I can pick locks and slip through the shadows behind my enemies and open em up. while joe is a shiny cleric guy who apparently can pimp smack a ghost and glows in the dark while trying to sneak but he can heal, you could also be an archer with bows or crossbows and use back up weapons of somekind and gain wierd nature abilities like the blessing of the merfolk (fish people like sara likes) or you can grab a giant two handed hammer or even two one handed hammers or maces or a million other weapons from both oriental and western cultures it has a built in controller mapping system simple to use so you can use a game controller like an xbox or ps3 its like phantasy star WOW and evena little like maple story minus the suck. so play PLAY before me and joe leave you all so far behind its rediculus. not selling this too hard am I?

Why your dad didn't tell you, I dunno. He probably didn't want to burden you with more stress. Grandma doesn't even remember being at the hospital, she was pretty out of it. Grandpa just came back today and hes pretty normal now and on meds, so everything is ok.
