Laptop!

Awww!!! I picked my laptop up the other day and it loosened where the screen can be bent to close and now today it started smoking!! Can someone fix it?♥ ◕‿◕

I'll need duct tape, peppermints, a shoelace, and a pizza...

I know! It didn't burn him just his fur alittle, but he's been hissing at it. lol I have no idea why.

smoking is bad for your health... especially in the case of computers

I know! but atleast it still work as of right now.

So, the hinge between the screen and computer is loose, and is started smoking, do you remember where the smoke was coming from? It might be some loose parts for the hinge, and the smoke may be caused by a buildup of debris on the inside of your lappy. Considering its age and the amount of hair, etc. focused around you guys it might be that.

I can clean it if you'd like, but if you want to attempt it yourself make sure it is off and then unplug the battery pack, and leave it off for about an hour or so. You'll also need some canned air, but don't get it too close or hold the spray on for too long at a time or else it will produce moisture and get the innards wet. Also do it in a well ventilated area, the fumes are hazardous. Be very careful to keep all screws (I'd suggest putting them in a plastic baggy, especially with Moo around) and ground yourself each time before you touch the innards, or static will zap them. I'd say the power supply got some of the gunk in it and burned it a bit, so I wouldn't leave it unattended while on till its checked out.

i was thinking the power to the screen is in that there hinge and if its breaking it could have rubbed the coating off a hot/power wire and be grazing something metal causing a mild grounding... maybe... may result in funny smells and ultimately fire so be careful!

That is pretty likely too, might want to get some electrical tape if you don't already. While its apart for cleaning is shouldn't be a big deal to check that (you'd want to clean it anyway since it probably has a lot of buildup).
